Bihar polls: PM urges voters to set new voting record

New Delhi, Nov 7 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday appealed voters to vote in large numbers and set a new record as polling began in 78 of the 243 seats for the third and last phase of the Bihar Assembly elections.

In a tweet in Hindi, the Prime Minister said, ' Today is the third and last phase of voting in Bihar Assembly elections.

'I request all the voters to participate in this festival of democracy in large numbers and set a new voting record.

And yes, follow social distancing norms and wear masks.'

Voting started at 0700 hrs amid tight security and Covid protocol in place for the 78 Assembly seats, spread across 15 districts of the state.

The Vice-President lauded the series of measures taken by the government for the empowerment of farmers. He said, "Better price discovery mechanisms like the e-NAM portal of the government are laudable initiatives and we should give freedom to farmers to make decisions on when, where and whom to sell.'
Speaking on the need to create awareness among the farmers for diversification, the Vice-President said, "Farmers should be encouraged to take up allied activities like horticulture, sericulture, aquaculture, dairy, poultry, and food processing to diversify their sources of income."
Apart from the cultivation of cereals and pulses, farmers should also be encouraged to grow commercial crops, he stressed.
