Non-metro options part of Jewar airport-NCR connectivity plan

Greater Noida: Non-metro options are also being explored to boost connectivity to the Jewar airport site from other parts of NCR, TOI has learnt.
At present, the only option available to cover the 88km distance between the airport site and IGI Airport is by road. But state-run engineering consultancy RITES has now suggested four connectivity options, including road links to the airport site in Jewar.
The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) on Friday tabled the findings of the multi-modal connectivity study before UP industries minister Satish Mahana. The report by RITES lays emphasis on improving access to the airport from Delhi and Haryana.
The consultant has suggested the introduction of a rapid rail transport system as the first option and providing road accessibility via Urban Extension Road – 2 (UER-2) as the second option. YEIDA will have to create a 62km-long rail corridor to provide a link through rapid rail, out of the 88km-long stretch. “The remaining 26km stretch is being executed by another agency and we will have to commission a link line,” YEIDA CEO Arun Vir Singh told the minister.
For UER-2, YEIDA will have to provide a link route spanning 4km while the remaining 74km will be executed by other agencies. UER-2 has been conceived as the third ring road in Delhi, which will facilitate the movement of commuters between Delhi and parts of NCR.
For improved movement to south Delhi, RITES has also come up with an option of extending the network of metro connectivity. For better road connectivity to Delhi via Haryana, a link from Yamuna Expressway to Ballabgarh has been suggested. An elevated road along the Yamuna has been planned between Delhi and Faridabad, which will also join Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
YEIDA has to provide a 7km-long link for the Ballabhgarh connection. The elevated road will extend up to Kalindi Kunj-DND junction, according to the study. Alternatively, YEIDA is trying to convince National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited to provide halt of high-speed trains planned between Delhi and Varanasi at Greater Noida and Jewar.
Officials revealed that in the current fiscal, 854 industrial plots have been allocated. Over a period of five to seven years, the allotment of plots will result in 1.60 lakh job opportunities and investments worth Rs 6,500 crore.
