New Delhi, November 6

The CBI has arrested a superintendent of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) posted at Range V in Chandigarh for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs20,000.

A senior agency official said a case was registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act (as amended in 2018) against Vijay Sehra.

“It was alleged that the complainant, Subhash Chand Dadhwal, had received summons from the superintendent through post wherein he was directed to appear in the office along with documents. It was further alleged that the suspect directed the complainant to pay a bribe to settle his tax issue,” the CBI official said.

Following the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught Sehra “while taking a bribe of Rs20,000” from the complainant, the official said. Later, searches were conducted at his residence in Panchkula and office in Chandigarh, which led to the recovery of incriminating documents, the official added.

Gets 3-day remand

A CBI court on Friday remanded Vijay Sehra in three-day CBI custody in the Rs20,000 graft case. The investigating agency produced the suspect before the court and sought five-day remand for him, stating that his custodial interrogation was essential to ascertain the names of senior officials among whom the bribe money was supposed to be shared by the suspect.
