Chandigarh, Nov 7 (UNI) Haryana Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker Ranbir Gangwa said for the first time in the election history, the BC-A class will get the benefit of eight per cent reservation, giving the people of this class more representation in Panchayati Raj Institutions.
He said this while interacting with representatives of Prajapat Samaj and other backward classes of various districts including Hisar, Jhajjar, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Panchkula and Panipat, who arrived in Chandigarh Saturday after the Reservation Bill was passed in the assembly.
On this occasion, representatives of backward classes thanked Mr Gangwa for lobbying the reservation and getting it passed in the assembly.
The representatives said this was a long standing demand of BC-A people which the present government has fulfilled by giving this big gift to the people of the society.
Mr Gangwa said to ensure 50 percent share of women in all the three levels of Panchayati Raj Institutions, Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis and District Councils and to give eight percent reservation to BC-A class people in Panchayat Samitis and District Councils is a historic initiative of the government.
On this occasion, former Chairman, Haryana Backward Classes Commission, Mr Satbir Verma, , said the decision to give eight per cent reservation in BC-A class to Panchayati Raj Act has increased the respect of backward classes. He said Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar , who is moving ahead with the vision of development, has fulfilled a great demand of the society, for which the entire backward class society is grateful to him.
