India Today-Axis exit poll predicts 16-18 bypoll seats for BJP in Madhya Pradesh

The India Today-Axis My India exit poll predicts that the BJP is likely to win 16-18 out of the 28 seats that went to bypolls earlier this month.

Bypolls to 54 assembly constituencies across 10 states were held at the instructions of the Election Commission of India. These include crucial seats in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh.

Similarly, assembly seats were up for bypolls in Karnataka, Jharkhand, Odisha, Nagaland, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Telangana.

Madhya Pradesh bypolls

According to the India Today-Axis My India exit poll, the Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Madhya Pradesh will survive with the BJP likely to bag 16-18 assembly seats. The Congress is estimated to bag 10-12 of the total 28 setas up for byelection in Madhya Pradesh.

If these estimates hold true, the BJP's vote share has risen to 46 per cent while the Congress' vote share rose by two per cent to 43 per cent. The exit poll also predicts 0-1 seats up for bypolls in MP going to the BSP.

Uttar Pradesh bypolls

The BJP could bag five to six bypoll seats in Uttar Pradesh, according to the India Today-Axis My India exit poll. In addition, the Samajwadi Party could win 1-2 seats and the BSP 0-1 assembly seats that went to bypoll.

If these estimates hold true, the BJP's vote share in Uttar Pradesh stands strong at 37 per cent. At the same time, Congress' vote share in UP is an estimated 8 per cent, while the SP retained its 27 per cent vote share, the BSP also managed to hold on to its 20 per cent vote share.
