Ken-Betwa Link Project work to begin soon

Bhopal, Nov 6 (UNI) Work on the multipurpose Ken-Betwa Link Project – part of a series that resulted from erstwhile premier Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s vision – will commence in the near future subsequent to removal of deadlock, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan assured on Friday.
“The delay is owing to lack of consensus on seasonal water sharing between our state and Uttar Pradesh. We had concurred vis-à-vis supplying 700 million cubic metres for rabi crops and domestic purposes to the neighbouring state in non-monsoon months. In this regard, our stand will be unambiguously placed before the Centre. Due to seamless development of Madhya Pradesh, irrigation facility shall be extended by 2 lakh hectares this year. A special feature is that – for the first time – water will be provided through pipeline for 68,000 ha,” the senior politician was officially quoted as saying while chairing a meeting at Mantralaya.

During the gathering itself, he urged Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to remove quandaries at the earliest. In this regard, a direct interaction was proposed in the coming week.
