Facebook flags Himanta's post

Guwahati, Nov 7 (UNI) A Facebook post by influential Assam minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has been flagged by the social media giant for sharing false information.

Dr Sarma had yesterday shared a video on his social media accounts, including Facebook, in which supporters of a rival political party, AIUDF, are purportedly raising 'Pakistan zindabad' slogans.

The AIUDF supporters were welcoming their party chief and MP Maulana Badruddin Ajmal and other leaders.

The AIUDF had clarified that the slogan was 'Aziz Khan zindabad' in support of a party leader, and fact checking sites like AltNews and BoomLive had also backed their claim through independent fact checking.

As Dr Sarma did not take down his post or issue any rejoinder, Facebook flagged his post, citing independent fact checkers debunking the video as containing false information.

Dr Sarma, who holds major portfolios in the BJP-led Assam government, is also the convenor of a North East regional forum of political parties, also led by the BJP, called North East Democratic Alliance.

He has over 9 lakh 'likes' for his Facebook page.

Assam is slated to go to the polls next year.
