MUMBAI: Andheri resident Bhavesh Bhanushali (33) created a record of sorts by donating plasma for the fifth time since he suffered from Covid-19 in May.
"I have been told it is a feat, but I don't know for sure," said the businessman who was prompted by his eight-day hospitalisation to help other patients. His trauma began in the last week of May with fever spiking to 103 degrees F. He developed an irritating cough the next week. While swab tests were negative, a CT scan showed Covid-typical pneumonia and he was admitted to Tunga Hospital, Malad.
"After discharge, I felt the need to do something for Covid patients and plasma donation seemed to be the answer," said Bhanshali. But as he did not have a RT-PCR report for Covid, no public hospital was ready to accept him as a donor. He contacted NGO Prana Pan India through his family doctor.
Prana founder Maria Nigam directed him to Hiranandani Hospital, Powai, where tests showed Covid antibodies and he was chosen as a donor the first time.
