President administers oath to new CIC

New Delhi, Nov 7 (UNI) President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday administered the oath of Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) to Yashvardhan Kumar Sinha at a ceremony held here at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The 62-year-old Sinha will have a tenure of about three years as the CIC.

Sinha, a 1981-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, had earlier served as Central Information Commissioner.

Several officers and employees of the President's Secretariat were present during his oath ceremony.

The post of CIC went vacant after Bimal Julka attained superannuation on August 26.

The Vice-President lauded the series of measures taken by the government for the empowerment of farmers. He said, "Better price discovery mechanisms like the e-NAM portal of the government are laudable initiatives and we should give freedom to farmers to make decisions on when, where and whom to sell.'
Speaking on the need to create awareness among the farmers for diversification, the Vice-President said, "Farmers should be encouraged to take up allied activities like horticulture, sericulture, aquaculture, dairy, poultry, and food processing to diversify their sources of income."
Apart from the cultivation of cereals and pulses, farmers should also be encouraged to grow commercial crops, he stressed.
