KOLKATA: The Border Security Force (BSF), on Wednesday, nabbed three Sri Lankan nationals while they were sneaking into India from Bangladesh across the Indo-Bangladesh border near Tarali in North 24-Parganas. All three have been handed over to authorities of the Searupnagar police station.
"Early on Wednesday, troops of the 112Bn BSF posted at BOP Tarali were patrolling the border when the Quick Reaction Team spotted movement and nabbed the three. They identified themselves as Thirumaran M (40), Pingalan S (36) and Manigandan (25). They were carrying nearly Rs 2,43,819 in foreign currency and said that they entered Bangladesh from India nearly 10 months ago," a senior BSF official said.
The three also claimed that they are originally Sri Lankan nationals who migrated to India in 1990 and started living in Tamil Nadu. They wished to work abroad and apparently approached an agent named Stalin Christafar. The agent told them that they would find it difficult to obtain Indian passports but he could manage Bangladeshi ones for them if they travelled to that country. The three then sneaked into Bangladesh.
"They claimed that they stayed for a few days in Dhaka before moving to a hotel in Benapole. After a few months, they realised that they were being cheated by the agents there and decided to return to India. The money found on them was apparently sent by the brothers of Pingalan and Thirumaran, who work in France. Arun Kumar, CO, 112Bn BSF, has commended the efforts of his troops who succeeded in nabbing the three," the official added.
