Maharashtra assembly breach of privilege case: SC grants protection from arrest to Arnab Goswami

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday granted protection to Republic TV editor-in-chief from arrest in the Maharashtra assembly proceedings initiated against him for using foul language against state chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.
The top court slammed the secretary of the assembly for threatening Goswami and said every citizen has the right under Article 32 of the Constitution to approach the apex court directly and said that because Goswami came to the Supreme Court, he cannot be threatened in this manner.
The court asked the Maharashtra assembly secretary to show cause in two weeks why a contempt proceeding should not be initiated against him for threatening Goswami for showing assembly notice issued to him to the apex Court.
