Apex Court wants to see "blue sky"

New Delhi, Nov 6 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Friday took up a plea against the stubble burning and its impact on air pollution and asked the Centre to ensure that air gets clean as soon as possible.
"We want you to ensure that there is no smog in the city," Chief Justice of India SA Bobde asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta.
Senior advocate Vikas Singh, representing the petitioner, told the court that the situation is worsening in the National Capital and if something happens to his health, who will be responsible?
The Solicitor General stated that "Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas" Ordinance has been promulgated and the concerned body is also constituted.
The SC told the court that the concerned body has bureaucrats, researchers and scientists and they all are working on the pollution.
The petitioner urged the court for some immediate direction as it is a "health emergency" now.
The CJI told the SG that the court needs concrete results and posted the matter for immediate hearing after the Diwali vacation.
The average Air Quality Index of Delhi on Friday morning, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), was 397, which falls under the "very poor" category and almost 14 times the limits notified by the World Health Organisation.
A part of the National Capital's pollution is due to stubble burning, still practised by farmers in neighbouring states, despite stringent laws and proactive actions.
