For Lucknow heritage tourism, things have finally started to appear positive since monuments have been reopened after the lockdown. Tourism officials have explained that there is a substantial increase in footfall as tourists have started visiting these heritage structures to beat the blues of pandemic. The number of visitors is hoped to increase in the coming days.

To quote Deputy Superintending Archaeologist, Manoj Saxena, “The Bada Imambada is one of most preferred destinations for tourists…it seems the monument continues to attract visitors even in times of pandemic.”

From March 17th, the Imambada and other heritage sites had remained closed in view of the Covid pandemic. On November 1st, around 1,985 tourists visited the monument.

“In October, around 27,600 tourists visited the Bada Imambada, which is much above expectations. However, all were domestic tourists,” said an official in charge of ticketing at the Imambada.

In September, the Imambada reopened for the public after remaining closured of almost 190 days. However, only 100 tourists are allowed to visit this monument at a time.

Also, there has been a rise in tourists visiting the Residency, the other preferred destination in the city. “In October, around 4,485 tourists, including one foreigner, visited this place,” said Saxena.
