A 24-year-old wheelchair-bound man was arrested on Wednesday night, soon after a house robbery in Guava Street in Jacksonville in the Eastern Cape.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu, it is alleged that at about 21:00, the 35-year-old complainant was watching TV inside his house when he heard the man - who lives opposite him - shouting out his name and swearing at him.

"The suspect wanted him to open the door but he refused. As the complainant went to speak to him through a window, his kitchen door was kicked open and two men entered the house. The complainant grappled with one of the suspects, however, they still managed to run off with the TV set. The value of the set is approximately R5 000," said Naidu.

The 24-year-old man was detained on a charge of house robbery and appeared in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

The two other suspects are still on the run.
