Gang of vehicle thieves busted; four arrested

Ludhiana, November 5

The Haibowal police claimed to have busted a gang of vehicle thieves and arrested four of its members, including a scrap dealer.

The suspects have been identified as Sukhjit Kumar Sukha (30) of Rara Sahib, Parminder, alias Nikku (50), of Amritsar, Suraj Kumar (30) of Shimlapuri and Ramesh Kumar ( 34) of Raikot, a junk dealer.

The police also recovered a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle, a Hyundai Accent car, a Tata Indica car, a Honda Activa scooter, several engines of cars, two-wheelers and a large number of parts of vehicles. Later, JCP Bhagirath Meena and ADCP 3 Sameer Verma addressed mediapersons in this regard.

JCP Meena said the police had got a tip-off that the suspects were running a gang of vehicle thieves and after stealing vehicles, they used to sell the same to a scrap dealer of Raikot. Accordingly, the police laid a naka at Jawala Singh Chowk, from where three of the suspects were nabbed.

The three suspects admitted that they used to sell stolen vehicles to a Raikot-based scrap dealer.

Accordingly, the police also nabbed the scrap dealer and recovered stolen vehicles and parts from the godown of the scrap dealer, said the JCP.

ADCP Verma said with the arrest of the gang, 19 cases of vehicle thefts were solved and in further probe, more of their aides could be arrested. — TNS
