GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday held a review meeting to take stock of the implementation of various rehabilitation projects for people affected by the blowout in Baghjan.
“The disaster caused a widespread impact on the livelihood of locals living in nearby areas. Chief minister Sonowal, to give succor to the people of Baghjan areas, made several announcements for the socio-economic development of the people living in the areasm, ” a statement issued by the state government read.
As upgradation of Baghjan Dighal Tarrang High School to higher secondary school was one of his announcements, on being asked about the status of its implementation, principal secretary education department B Kalyan Chakravarthy informed him that from the coming academic year, the school will function as a higher secondary school. Moreover, on the renovation of five schools around Baghjan area, the principal secretary said progress has been made on that front as well.
Regard setting up of a 30-bed model hospital, including residential quarters at Baghjan, principal secretary health and family welfare department, Samir Sinha, told Sonowal that DPR is being prepared as the foundation stone for the same can be laid soon.
Sonowal, for the socio-economic empowerment of the youth of Baghjan areas, had announced setting up of skill development centre. Commissioner and secretary of the industry and commerce department, Dr KK Dwivedi, said he is in touch with the concerned functionary for setting up the centre as soon as possible.
