BENGALURU: A 22-year-old artisan-cum-computer operator has been arrested for allegedly stealing gold from a jewel mart where he worked for eight years.
Cubbon Park police took Lambodar Biswal into custody from his home at Naupada village in Odisha and recovered 1.5kg of gold worth Rs 1 crore. On July 23, B Lakshmi Narayana, manager with the jewel mart, filed a complaint against Biswal, accusing him of fleeing with 2.4kg of ornaments.
“He worked as helper, gold artisan and computer operator at the jewel mart. He was in charge of ornaments that were sent for polishing and making designs. On July 23, we found Biswal hadn’t returned some of them. He had deleted the entries made in the computer. When questioned, he failed to give an explanation and became elusive thereafter,” the complaint stated.
On July 25, he flew to Bhubaneswar and then travelled in a bus to reach his home. In August, he sold 900 grams of gold to goldsmiths there to meet his expenses, an officer said.
