NEW DELHI: The crime branch of Delhi Police has arrested a key henchman of gangster Rohit Choudhary, who was involved in several incidents of firing and land grabbing in south Delhi.
The accused has been identified as Manish, a resident of Aya Nagar. He has been arrested under MCOCA.
DCP (crime) Bhisham Singh said that cops from the special task force had intensified the manhunt for Choudhary and his associates after booking them under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
In the intervening night of June 28 and 29, Choudhary and his associates had landed up at a plot in Aya Nagar. They were carrying weapons and sticks and they not only threatened the land owner to vacate the plot but also fired several rounds to scare him and his family.
The police filed an FIR under sections of threat, act endangering people's lives etc under IPC and under sections of Arms Act as well. However, the accused remained at large.
After, crime branch booked Choudhary under MCOCA, the investigation of the case was transferred from local police to Crime Branch on October 20.
During investigation, Manish and a few others were identified and raids were conducted to nab them.
"On November 4, a team led by ACP Pankaj Singh raided Manish's hideout in Aya Nagar and arrested him," DCP Singh added.
The team had also received a specific information about the gang leader, Choudhary, coming to Aya Nagar to meet his wife and laid a trap but he didn't turn up. A team is now conducting raids in Haryana and Uttarakhand to nab him.
