Illegal liquor vend busted

Amritsar: The Amritsar rural police have busted yet another illegal liquor vend operating with impunity in the rural belt. It was running in Ajaibwali village falling under the Kathunangal police station here. This is fourth such illegal vend busted in Kathunangal police station’s jurisdiction. In a statement released on Thursday, police authorities said that the vend was being run by Rashpal Singh of Verka at a rented shop near Ajaibwali village. The police confiscated 36 litres of liquor of different brands from the shop. According to the police, it had busted around 13 such illegal liquor vends in the recent past. It busted two vends in the Kamboh police station area, one in Mattewal police station, four in Kathunangal police station, one in Majitha, three in Ajnala and two in Beas. TNS

‘Fast-track trial’ in Hooch tragedy

Amritsar: For speedy trial in the hooch tragedy that claimed nearly 100 lives in Tarn Taran alone, the Punjab Police have urged the district sessions court to put the case in fast track court. Tarn Taran SSP Dhruman Nimbale in a statement issued on Thursday said that the police had presented the challan in the court after completing the probe. Around 70 persons were nabbed by the police in the hooch tragedy. “We have urged the court for the speedy trial so that justice could be provided to the victims’ families as soon as possible,” he said.
