Panchkula, November 5
Members of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) today observed ‘Mahila and Dalit Utpidan Virodhi Diwas’ over ‘rising’ crimes and atrocities against women and Dalits. A dharna was staged behind the Hafed building in Sector 5 here.
Selja lashes out at Central Government
State Congress president Kumari Selja lashed out at the BJP-led Central Government for “failing” to ensure the safety of women in the country, besides blaming it for committing atrocities on Dalits. She said it was unfortunate that whether it was Haryana or Hathras in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP seemed to be defending the suspects in crimes against women.
Haryana Congress incharge Vivek Bansal, state Congress president Kumari Selja, Haryana Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Kiran Choudhry and other senior party leaders took part in the protest.
Addressing the protesters, Bansal said the BJP slogan “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” was meaningless. He added that when he and Selja went to meet the family of the slain Nikita Tomar in Ballabhgarh, BJP leaders raised slogans against them. He accused the BJP of politicising Tomar’s death. “Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar didn’t even feel right to visit the victim’s family,” he said.
