In order to deal with the riots in wake of the Presidential Elections in downtown Portland, authorities in Oregon decided to send units of the National Guard to the city to provide assistance to law enforcement officers, said Multnomah county sheriff's office on Wednesday (local time).

"Widespread violence is occurring in Downtown Portland. In the interest of public safety, Governor Kate Brown, under the advice of the Unified Command, has activated the use of the Oregon National Guard to assist local law enforcement in responding to any acts of violence, and to maintain public order and ensure community safety," a tweet from the Sherriff's office read.

"Guard members are trained in crowd control and will be riding with local response teams. They are dressed in military-style garb, which is their uniform," it added.

According to Sputnik, earlier in the day, Portland police declared mass gatherings in downtown Portland riots. One group of protesters reportedly began smashing shop windows and throwing objects at law enforcement officers. At least 10 people have been detained in the city.

A group of supporters of President Donald Trump gathered at the Arizona Capitol and Maricopa County elections centres in Phoenix demanding election workers to keep counting ballots.

The county elections department indicated it would not be intimidated, USA Today reported.

With 86 per cent of the state reporting, Trump trailed Biden by just shy of 80,000 votes, according to the New York Times.

CNN projects Biden will secure victory in at least three of Maine's four electoral votes, along with the states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Hawaii, Rhode Island, Minnesota, Virginia, California, Oregon, Washington state, Illinois, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Colorado, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Delaware, Washington, DC, Maryland, Massachusetts and one of Nebraska's five electoral votes. Notably, Nebraska and Maine allot two electoral votes to their statewide victors and split their other electoral votes by congressional districts.

Meanwhile, CNN projects Trump will bag Montana, Texas, Iowa, Idaho, Ohio, Mississippi, Wyoming, Missouri, Kansas, Utah, Louisiana, Alabama, South Carolina, North Dakota, South Dakota, Arkansas, Indiana, Oklahoma, Kentucky, West Virginia and Tennessee and four of Nebraska's five electoral votes.

Joe Biden’s lead in the battleground state of Arizona has shrunk with the latest results from vote-counting. Joe Biden is now leading by 10,000 votes, reports CNN. Georgia’s largest county has about 10,000 absentee ballots left to count, Fulton County elections director Richard Barron told CNN early Thursday morning.The county has decided to continue counting through the night and has been tabulating votes at a rate of about 3,000 per hour.

Fulton County is home to Atlanta and Democratic stronghold. The county has tabulated all in-person votes and is now counting only absentee votes. The only remaining votes would be provisional and overseas military ballots.

As the world awaits the results of 2020 US presidential elections, the battleground states of Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Nevada and Alaska remain to be called. Joe Biden has a narrow lead in Nevada, and Democrats believe he will overhaul Trump’s lead in at least one of Georgia or Pennsylvania as the last remaining votes are counted. Trump will take Alaska, and currently leads in North Carolina, reports The Guardian.

In the 2016 presidential election, then Republican candidate Donald Trump bagged Michigan with 47.50 per cent of the vote, while his challenger Hillary Clinton trailed very close at 47.27 per cent.

Biden needs 17 more votes to win the race as counting is underways in key states including Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Arizona, according to New York Times projections. US President Donald Trump, despite winning the big states of Florida, North Carolina, currently has only 214 votes, according to a tally by New York Times.

As many as 89% of votes in Pennysylvania are in and Trump is maintaining a lead over his rival. However, there are still 7,65,000 uncounted votes in Pennsylvania. Joe Biden needs to win 59% to 61% of these to turn the state blue while Trump needs 39% to 41% of the uncounted votes to win, CNN reports.

As the Trump campaign filed lawsuits in three states, Donald Trump wrote on Twitter, “Our lawyers have asked for “meaningful access”, but what good does that do? The damage has already been done to the integrity of our system, and to the Presidential Election itself. This is what should be discussed!”

Votes are still being counted in several key states, which could determine the outcome of the presidential race between President Trump and Joe Biden.

US President Donald Trump's campaign on Wednesday (local time) has filed a lawsuit in the state of Michigan to suspend vote counting "until meaningful access is granted". "We have filed suit today in the Michigan Court of Claims to halt counting until meaningful access has been granted," Trump's campaign manager Bill Stepien said in a statement on Wednesday. "We also demand to review those ballots which were opened and counted while we did not have meaningful access," he added.

"Today, the Trump Administration officially left the Paris Climate Agreement. And in exactly 77 days, a Biden Administration will rejoin it," tweeted Joe Biden.
