Women robbed of gold at gunpoint

Hoshiarpur: After last evening’s loot incident at Khudda, two armed robbers looted gold ornaments weighing 44 gm from a woman and her daughter-in-law at gunpoint near Manak village this afternoon. Lakhvir Kaur (40), wife of Gurdeep Singh and her mother-in-law Gurdev Kaur (70), wife of Didar Singh, both residents of Manak village, were going to Hajipur to take medicines. They were returning home after taking medicines from Hajipur at around 12.30 pm on Wednesday. As soon as they took a turn from Hajipur road to their village, two robbers came out of the sugarcane fields and started beating them. Lakhvir Kaur said the suspects robbed them at gunpoint and threatened to shoot them. The accused took a gold bangle weighing 30 grams, a gold chain weighing 10 gm from her and a gold ring of 4 gm from Gurdev Kaur. An investigation is under way. — OC
