NAVI MUMBAI: Two persons were killed and eight others sustained injuries after a major explosion in the reactor during the manufacturing process at a pharmaceutical company in Khalapur on Thursday early morning.
The victims were working in adjacent units and they were hurt in the explosion as metal from the reactors blew up and fell on the adjacent plots causing injuries to them. The two workers in the chemical company escaped unhurt as they exited quickly as the fire gutted the entire factory. Raigad district information officer Manoj Sanap informed that the explosion occurred at around 2.40 am at Jasnova Pharmaceutical and Specialty Chemicals company located in Arcos Industrial Premises Co-operative Society at Dheku village in Khalapur taluka. Firefighters from Khopoli Municipal Council, Reliance company, Uttam Steel, Tata Steel and Panvel City Municipal Corporation extinguished the fire after five hours of fire fighting operation."
Raigad deputy collector Vaishali Pardeshi informed that, one of the deceased persons Vaishnavi Nivbane, 32, is the wife of a security guard at the adjacent plot. She was injured by the reactor's metal part that blew up and fell on her while she was running out of the plot by carrying her infant, who has also sustained minor injuries as she fell down while running away.
The other deceased is a security guard Anwar Khan who works at Besto Company located on the opposite unit. He was also injured by the reactor's metal part that fell on his premises. The eight injured persons including two minors and an infant were treated at Khopoli civic hospital and have been discharged. They are Krishna Nubane( 40) Kirti Nubane (15 months), Aarti Krishna Nubane (11), Ashish Krishna Nubane (9),Bishnoi Krishna Nubane(35), Girish Gowda (44) Sagar Kondilkar (23) and Nathu Pawar (30)."
