Ludhiana, November 4
As claimed by the police, first time in the state, the Ludhiana Commissionerate organised a mega camp yesterday to auction impounded and seized vehicles lying at various police stations. Some of the auctioned vehicles have been gathering dust at police stations and the Police Lines for even over 10 years.
ACP (Traffic) Gurdev Singh, who supervised the entire auction process, said in the process, as many as 154 persons took part to buy the vehicles of all sorts.
“As many as 1,705 vehicles were auctioned by the Ludhiana police for a sum of Rs 1.04 crore. The reserve price of these vehicles were over Rs 83 lakh so police got Rs 21 lakh more than the reserve price. The collected amount will be deposited in the public exchequer. After completing the process within a week, the auctioned vehicles will be handed over to successful bidders.
The ACP (traffic) said about a year ago, he had started the process of gathering records of impounded and seized vehicles lying at the traffic wing of the Police Lines. It was a challenging as finding the owners and then availing auction orders from court was not an easy task.
Under the guidance of Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal, finally the auction process started and 1,705 vehicles auctioned on Tuesday. The auction process was on till late evening. Now, the remaining vehicles will also be auctioned by following the due procedure.
Gurdev said it was the first-ever initiative taken by any district police as no such mega auction camp was organised by any police in the state.
Notably, the police had over 4,000 vehicles lying with them as case properties and process to handover them to owners or through the auction process has already been initiated by the police.
