More than 30 people are feared to be drowned after a boat capsized in the Ganges river near the village of Tirtanga in the Gopalpur police station area of ​​Bhagalpur district in Bihar.


Station in-charge Kunal Chakraborty told here today that more than 40 people were boarding a boat from Darshan Manjhi Ghat of Ganga river near the village of Tirtanga to cultivate maize at the other end of the river when the boat capsized in the middle river. The accident occurred due to the over-boarding of the boat.

Mr. Chakraborty told that 8 of the people on the boat somehow swam to shore. The local people immediately rushed to the spot for help and made a woman's body out of the river. The deceased has been identified as Sunayana Devi of Tirtanga village, aged 35 and the husband's name is Kilbul Yadav.

As soon as the news of the incident was received, the subdivision officer of Navgachia, Akhilesh Kumar, and Block Development Officer Priyanka has also reached the spot. Police are searching for missing people with the help of local divers. Also, a team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been called from Bhagalpur.
