The Shiv Sena on Thursday condemned the arrest of the editor-in-chief of Republic TV, Arnab Goswami, in a case of incitement to suicide, the BJP's statements terming it a 'black day' and an 'attack on freedom of the press'.
The Shiv Sena, in an editorial published in its mouthpiece 'Saamana', said it is surprising that state BJP leaders as well as Union ministers are alleging that there is a "state of emergency" in Maharashtra due to Goswami's arrest. The Mumbai police arrested Goswami on Wednesday for allegedly abetting interior designer Anvay Naik to commit suicide.
A case has been registered against Goswami and two others under Section 3106 and Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly committing suicide by Republic TV for not paying them. 'Saamana' alleged that Goswami had 'dabbed' in the Naik suicide case to save the erstwhile government of Fadnavis. The editorial claimed that a journalist was arrested in Gujarat for writing against the state government while several journalists were killed in Uttar Pradesh.
Saamana wrote, "No one remembers the Emergency on these incidents, while the state BJP leaders should demand justice for Anvay Naik, son of this soil." The editorial wrote, "An innocent person and His old mother died due to suicide. The wife of the deceased is demanding justice and the police are acting as per the law. "Saamana wrote," Where are the questions about the attack on the fourth pillar (of democracy) here? Those who are saying so are trying to weaken the pillar first. ”The mouthpiece said that all people including the Prime Minister are equal before the law.
