HYDERABAD: The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday grilled former home minister, the late Nayini Narasimha Reddy's, personal secretary Mukund Reddy in connection with the insurance medical scam.
Sources in the ED said several accused, including the prime accused Ch Devika Rani, confessed to the Anti-Corruption Bureau and Enforcement Directorate that Mukund had influenced them to favour certain companies for handing out contracts.
Devika Rani's husband P Gurumurthi said he used to deliver "commission money" to Mukund Reddy personally at the latter's house.
"Several companies owned by Pramod Reddy, Rajesh Reddy and Venkatesh Reddy were favoured. We are also probing the contracts given to Lensa Biotech, Leo Pharma, Sai Pharma, Tulasi Pharma, Pradyumna pharma and Montgomery medicals," said an ED official.
The ED has been recording the statements of several accused and witnesses under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The ED said that the total contracts are worth 900 crore and the bribery involved is estimated to be around 200 crore. Devika Rani has allegedly purchased 7 crore worth gold ornaments from PMJ Jewellers at Banjara Hills.
EC has booked PMLA case based on an Anti-Corruption Bureau FIR. The ACB had earlier booked a disproportionate assets case after finding assets worth 100 crore in the couple's possession.
ED has identified several properties, including plots, flats, buildings, agriculture land and commercial buildings in AP and Telangana owned by Devika Rani and her husband.
The accused own 33 acres of agricultural land in Telangana which has a market rate of 88 crore. The Enforcement Directoratesaid that Mukund Reddy would be made accused or witness based on the evidence that comes up against him during PMLA investigation.
