Security forces launched a massive siege and search operation in more than six places in various areas of South Kashmir on Thursday morning. Official sources gave this information.
He said that on the basis of intelligence inputs about the hideout of militants, Special Operations Group (SOG), Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) of Jammu Kashmir Police jointly started a siege and search operation in Yaripora of Kulgam. He said that all routes going out of the area to have been completely sealed and security forces are conducting door-to-door searches.
Security forces are also conducting searches in nearby gardens. Similarly, a search operation has been started in other parts of South Kashmir including Tral, Pulwama, Anantnag, and Shopian. The operation intensified in South Kashmir after security forces killed three Bharatiya Janata Party activists, including the leader of a youth wing, militants at YK Pora in Kulgam last week.
The campaign became even more important just a day after the state election commissioner KK Sharma announced the district development council (DDC) elections to be held in eight phases from November 28 in the union territory.
