MUMBAI: Four months after a 30-year-old MBA graduate took his own life in a car in Kandivali (east), the police arrested his wife, his wife's mother and uncle, for abetment of suicide. The victim, Ankit Podar, lived in Borivali (east). He had suffocated himself allegedly using carbon monoxide, in his father's car between July 24 and 25.
"Ankit left a suicide note in the form of a text and voice message on WhatsApp. He held his wife, Vandana, her mother, Anusuya, and her uncle, Pavan Deedwania, responsible," said a senior officer from Samta Nagar police station.
Ankit and Vandana got married in 2019. They were both employed with banks.
After Ankit took his own life in July, on September 23, Ankit's father Narendra registered a police complaint against Vandana. He said his son was being taunted over intimacy issues. Vandana had separated from Ankit. According to the complaint filed, Vandana's mother and uncle used to humiliate him over the phone after the separation. Narendra said his son had slipped into depression.
The police sent Ankit's gadgets for forensic examination. They learnt that Ankit had sent a text and voice message over WhatsApp to Pavan. "After thorough investigation and gathering evidence, Vandana and her two relatives have been arrested under sections 306 and 34 of IPC," a police officer said.
