Amit Shah in Bengal; Will hold series of meetings

Amit Shah in Bengal; Will hold series of meetings

Kolkata, Nov 5 (UNI) Eyeing on crucial SC, ST and Matua voters in West Bengal, Union

Home Minister and former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah arrived in

the city last night to hold a series of interactive sessions with ‘Karyakartas’ and ‘Samajik

Samuha’ in Bankura on Thursday for their preparedness and line of action for party for

2021 Assembly poll in the state.

BJP is prepping up to wrest power in West Bengal by unseating Mamata Banerjee-led

Trinamool Congress in the next year Assembly poll after the saffron brigade bagged 18

Parliament seats out of 42 in 2019 Lok Sabha elections in the state.

The party aims to impact South Bengal districts, including Purulia, West Midnapore and

Jhargram, consisting of 32 Assembly seats.

Mr Shah will lunch with a tribal family at Bankura.

In Kolkata on Friday, he will share a meal at a Matua home.

The Matua community, originally from erstwhile East Pakistan, wants citizenship under

the new Citizenship Amendment Act.

They voted BJP in 2019 and their young Matua MP, Santanu Thakur, has been lately

complaining about the delay in the implementation of the Act.

By lunching with a Matua family, effort will be on to assuage the grievance and put CAA

firmly on Bengal's electoral map.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had opposed the Bill furiously.

Even on Wednesday, she distributed 'pattas' or land rights to some members of the

community, clearly in a bid to woo them.

Ms Banerjee has granted land rights to 25,000 refugee families and said that a total of

1.25 lakh families would be given land rights.

She said that the land deed will be without any conditions, as the announcement on this

was made a year ago.
