DIBRUGARH/JORHAT: Members of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) on Tuesday staged a sit-in protest in Dibrugarh against the rising prices of essential commodities and petroleum products. Led by KMSS Dibrugarh district general secretary Hemanta Konwar, the KMSS members raised slogans against the Narendra Modi government.
“Ever since the NDA government came to power, prices of essential commodities and fuel have been rising. Fuel prices in the country are sky-rocketing and has hit the common man very hard. The price of onion and tomato is Rs 80 per kg, the price of potato is Rs 60 per kg. How will the common man survive? In Assam, the BJP government came to power promising to secure the ‘Jati, Mati, Bheti’ (race, land, base) of the indigenous people. But every policy they have adopted has turned out to be anti-poor,” Konwar said.
Stating that the petroleum minister has “failed” to check the rising prices of petrol and diesel, the KMSS leader also demanded the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. He warned that the KMSS would intensify its agitation if the Centre does not take any measure to check fuel prices soon.
