Scribes' bodies of Assam condemn Arnab's arrest

Guwahati, Nov 4 (UNI) Journalists' organisations of Assam have come out in condemnation of the arrest of Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami by Maharashtra police.

In a statement, Gauhati Press Club (GPC) said reopening of an old case of abetment to suicide that was closed for want of evidence, and arresting Goswami in connection with the said case is very unfortunate.

Members of the GPC executive committee, while condemning the arrest of Goswami, urged the Maharashtra Government and the Mumbai Police to ensure that the senior journalist is treated fairly without a prejudiced mindset.

“We have full faith in the justice delivery system of our country and hope that justice will be done," the statement added.

The Electronic Media Forum, Assam, has also condemned the arrest and demanded fair treatment of Goswami, whose family hails from Assam.

In another statement, Journalist Forum Assam (JFA) expressed utter dismay over the arrest of Goswami and urged the Maharashtra government to release him urgently.

The forum also appealed to the media fraternity of India to raise strong voices against the alleged physical assault to the editor-in-chief of Republic TV.
