MUMBAI: The city on Tuesday saw its lowest addition to
Covid-19 deaths in 186 days, a testimony of the declining coronavirus curve. With 15 fatalities, the death toll reached 10,323. The last time the city had seen fewer than 15 deaths was on May 1, when five people had died. At its peak, the city had seen up to 120 deaths in a day in June.
At 746, the count of new cases, too, declined, taking the tally to 2,59,857. It was the fourth day in a row that the city had reported fewer than 1,000 new cases in a day.
Municipal officials said the overall growth of cases between October 27 and November 2 had been 0.38%. The doubling rate had improved to 185 days now.
Of the 15 deaths, eight cases had co-morbidities.
The state reported 4,909 cases on Tuesday, clocking fewer than 5,000 new cases for the second consecutive day.
The overall case tally reached 16,92,693.
The state reported 120 deaths, taking its Covid-19 toll to 44,248. Deaths have been rising for the past few days, from 74 on October 31 to 113 on November 1.
The figure dropped to 104 on Monday, only to rise again on Tuesday. State officials said the case fatality rate was 2.61% and daily deaths were in the range of 100 now. During its worst phase, the state saw four times as many deaths daily.

Dr TP Lahane, head, Directorate of Medical Education and Research, said: βIn our 20 medical colleges, the daily deaths have dropped between 24 and 33, but we have to remain vigilant.β
With the state discharging more people than adding new cases, the active cases of the state and the city continued to record a dip. Active cases in the state numbered 1.1 lakh, of which 17,570 were in the city. The total discharges in the state were at 15.3 lakh, with the state sending home 6,973 people on Tuesday to take the rate of recovery to 90.5%. The case fatality rate dipped to 2.6% in the state and 3.9% in the city.
The MMR added 1,492 cases and 28 deaths, taking the tally to 5.8 lakh and the the toll to 17,832.
Kalyan-Dombivli reported 97 new cases and a death, taking the tally to 50,379, including 1,009 deaths. The recovery rate was 95.16 % with 1,425 active cases.
In Thane city, 152 new cases took the tally to 47,150 while a death took the toll to 1,159. The recovery rate improved slightly to 93.5%. While 44,071 patients had recovered, 1,920 were under active care.
