Himachal Pradesh would soon have a new sports policy in which national and international players from the state would be given prominence. Minister for Forests, Sports and Youth Affairs, Rakesh Pathania said this while addressing a press conference here today.

New policy mooted

  • Sports Minister Rakesh Pathania said a new sports policy for the state would be formulated
  • National and international players from the state to be given prominence in the policy

Pathania said a meeting of the sports council of the state was held here. Suggestions were invited from the players regarding drafting a new sports policy of Himachal, he added.

He said most of the former players suggested that politicians should have no role to play in the sports bodies and sports persons should be given prominence in them. The government would keep these suggestions in mind while drafting the new policy.

He said the government had decided to build 150 new stadiums in rural areas in the next financial year. Besides, four national-level tournaments would also be held.

He said the state would try to attract athletes from India and abroad for high-altitude training.
