The Editors Guild of India has released a statement post the news of Republic TV's editor-in-chief and MD, Arnab Goswami's arrest.
It states that the Editors Guild of India condemns the sudden arrest of Goswami and also finds it extremely distressing. It has called upon the chief minister of Maharasthra, Uddhav Thackeray to ensure Goswami is treated fairly and state power is not used to stop critical reporting by the media.
Ministers have also taken to social media to express their concern about the arrest. The I&B Minister, Prakash Javadekar condemned the attack on press freedom.
We condemn the attack on press freedom in #Maharashtra. This is not the way to treat the Press. This reminds us of the emergency days when the press was treated like this.@PIB_India @DDNewslive @republic

Media reports earlier today claimed that Goswami was arrested with regards to a 2018 case about the death of interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik.
