Court told to issue non-bailable warrant against Egyptian

Kochi, Nov 4 (UNI) Customs Department has moved the Economic Offences Court here to issue a non-bailable warrant against Khaled Mohamed Ali Shoukry, an Egyptian,for smuggling out $ 1,90,000 (about Rs 1.30 crore) to Cairo through Oman from Thiruvananthapuram International Airport.
Customs also wanted Shoukry, former finance head of UAE Consulate and confidential partner of UAE Consulate General, to be arraigned as the third accused after Swapna Suresh and P S Sarith who were also accused in the smuggling case.
Swapna on Wednesday gave a statement to the Superintendent of Customs that foreign currency was concealed in the handbag of Shoukry and she and Sarith had accompanied Shoukry till Dubai through Oman.
Swapna said that she had seen Shoukry screening his handbags in the X-Ray machine installed at the consulate office, Thiruvananthapuram in the presence of Sarith, to ensure that the currency would go undetected.
The agency submitted that a detailed investigation was warranted to identify whether more persons were involved in the case. The court posted the case for November nine.
