THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State Youth Welfare Board vice-chairman P Biju (42) died in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday. He was undergoing treatment for Covid-19 induced ailments at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College for the past one week.
Biju was also a member of Thiruvananthapuram district committee. The death was confirmed around 8.30am on Wednesday.
P Biju had tested positive for Covid-19 infection on October 20. Though he continued to be under home quarantine for one week, he was hospitalised on October 28 after his condition grew worse.
"Biju tested negative for Covid four days back and was preparing to get discharged when his condition grew worse again. He suffered renal failure," said Medical College superintendent MS Sharmad. Both the kidneys of Biju failed, which was a post-Covid effect. Biju was put on ventilator since Monday and given dialysis treatment. But the doctors could not revive him.
Biju is the son of Prabhakaran (late) and Chandrika of Venjarammood. He had entered politics through SFI, the student wing of CPM. He had served as the state secretary and president of SFI and state treasurer of DYFI. He had also served as a member of Kerala University Senate and Kerala University Syndicate as well as the chairman of Kerala University Union.
Harsha, who is a bank employee, is his wife. Biju has two sons -- Nayan (4) and Neil (1).
