Ludhiana, November 3

The commuters are a harried lot due to the badly broken Sunet-BRS Nagar stretch near the Sham Nagar level crossing in Ludhiana. The potholed stretch is crying for attention for the past several months.

With the sewerage overflow a major problem on the stretch, it has broken at different points. A few months ago, the MC had conducted patch work to repair the stretch, but the road portion has got damaged again, causing a lot of inconvenience to the commuters.

Work to begin soon, says Councillor

Councillor from ward number 72, Hari Singh Brar, said the road would be reconstructed soon as the work order for the project had been prepared. MC’s Superintending Engineer concerned said he would look into the matter.

The residents demand from Municipal Corporation to ensure the repair or reconstruction of this road and also some internal streets of Sunet. They also demand that the problem related to overflowing sewers should be resolved permanently.

An advocate Gaganpreet Singh said the MC should ensure timely repair of the roads so that mishaps could be avoided. A road near the level crossing is in a bad shape and it should be re-carpeted or re-constructed in a proper manner at the earliest. “Moreover, the MC should introduce a system that the potholes be filled immediately after receiving any complaint. It has been seen that the potholes at a number of locations are generally not repaired for a long time,” he said.

A resident of Sunet said, “The sewers used to overflow near the level crossing in the past. We want that the sewer-related problem should be resolved permanently. Now, the road has got damaged giving an open invitation to the mishaps. Pedestrians, bike riders and motorists face a lot of inconvenience these days. The old layer of the road should be removed and it should be reconstructed at the earliest.”
