Tiruvannamalai: Soundarya (18) of Seriyendhal village in Tiruvannamalai taluk lived with her mother and brother in highly impoverished circumstances. She had joined I year B.Com in the Tiruvannamalai Government Arts College but found that she could not attend the online classes as she had no smart phone. She then petitioned the Collector on Monday requesting him to provide a smartphone. Kandasamy called the girl, her mother and aunt to his chambers later in the evening and handed over a Rs 7,000 worth smart phone, Rs 2,500 cash for family expenses in addition to sweets and fruits taking the beneficiaries by surprise. Thanking the Collector, Soundarya said she would do her utmost to excel in studies as a mark of gratitude to the officer.
