Vienna, November 3

Five persons, including an assailant, were killed and 17 others injured in a shooting incident in the heart of Vienna Monday evening.

The gunned down attacker was identified as a 20-year-old Austrian-North Macedonian dual national Kujtim Fejzulai. He was sentenced to 22 months in prison in April 2019 because he had tried to travel to Syria to join the Islamic State. He was granted early release in December under the juvenile law.

Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said, “It is now confirmed that yesterday’s attack was an Islamist terror attack. It was an attack out of hatred.” — AP
