MADURAI: A minitruck driver and a cleaner died on the spot when their vehicle hit the rear side of a truck moving in front of it near Thirumangalam in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu in the early hours of Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as minitruck driver Sekar, 35, of Rayappanpatti near Hosur and Samraj, 50, of Periyakummanur in Dharmapuri district.
Police said that the minitruck was going to Kanyakumari district with flowers. The vehicle hit a truck carrying vegetables to Tuticorin. The accident happened at Kappalur.
On being alerted, a team from the Thirumangalam Town police station reached the spot and conducted an inquiry. A fire and rescue team from Thirumangalam station helped recover the dead bodies from the mangled front portion of the minitruck.
