Telangana’s ruling political party, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has been allotted land in Delhi to build an office. TRS is a regional party and has representation in Parliament through its MPs in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

The party announced that the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs handed over papers for the land today.

The TRS has been given 1,100 square metre of land in New Delhi’s posh Vasant Vihar for the construction of the office building. This will be a party office, while Telangana and Andhra Pradesh continue to share the Bhawan building in Delhi, which also houses the state’s residential commissioner in the national capital.

The papers were received from Union Minister by Telangana’s Roads and Buildings Minister Vemula Prashant Reddy, party said in statement. The Land and Development Office of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs had conveyed its decision to the party last month.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), who is also the president of the party, was told about the decision and KCR promptly responded by saying that the party would soon lay the foundation stone and complete the construction of the office building expeditiously.

TRS was floated in 2001 by KCR and other founding members with the sole objective of seeking a separating state of Telangana by bifurcation of the erstwhile state of Andhra Pradesh. The people of Telangana had a grouse that the region was neglected by the leaders of Andhra Pradesh.

The Congress party conceded to the demand and Telangana state came into being in 2014 with KCR as its first chief minister. Till recently, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh shared the capital Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh had many offices running from the capital city. After the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) came to power at the end of 2019, it decided to vacate most offices in the city, including the secretariat building.
