6 arrested for making fake IDs

Jalandhar: The police on Tuesday arrested six persons for making fake IDs for criminal activities. The suspects were identified as Trilok Singh, Harbans Singh, Malvir Singh, Vijay Kumar, Sandeep Singh, Balwinder Kaur, all of Moga. The cops held them near Kamal Palace Chowk while they were crossing the area in a private vehicle. ASI Baljinder Singh had received a tip-off that they were coming to Jalandhar to deliver some documents. A checkpoint was set up. The cops said they used to make Aadhaar Card, driving licence among other documents to help other convicts in getting bail. Through forged documents, they helped them in remaining untraceable. A case under Sections 419, 420, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of the IPC was registered. TNS

Traders seek settlement

Jalandhar: Days after traders raised their voice during a meeting with Industries Minister Sunder Sham Arora, they hit at the government again on Monday saying that despite repeated assurances, no announcement was made, which was not acceptable. Notably, the Industries Minister had said that the Punjab Government was set to unveil a one-time settlement policy (OTS) within a few days for resolving the long-pending issue of C-forms and other issues raised by industrialists in the state. But to no avail. They said there was a lot of pressure and mental harassment at the hands of the Excise and Taxation Department as the latter was pressurising them for VAT assessment. TNS
