The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) on Wednesday told the Supreme Court that it is not possible to conduct the upcoming CA examinations online. Some students suggested that this test be conducted online because of COVID-19 as it tests the ability of the candidates to analyze. ICAI said that this three-hour examination is of a different type, in which there is no marking, but rather to write detailed answers to questions.

A bench of Justice AM Khanwilkar, Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice Sanjeev Khanna asked the ICAI to publish on its website the steps taken for the welfare of students regarding COVID-19. The bench also disposed of the petition filed for information about the standards set for the upcoming CA exam.

The Chartered Accountant examinations are to be held from November 21 to December 14. During the hearing on the petition, Senior Advocate Ramji Srinivasan, on behalf of ICAI, said that they do not have separate rooms nor facilities for doctors as examination centers. He said that as per the instructions of the apex court, all the suggestions given by the petitioners' flute Swaraj have been considered.

He said, "It has been suggested that we can do this exam online. The format of our examination is different and hence we cannot conduct online examinations. ”He said that students’ analytical ability is tested in this exam. The bench told Swaraj that the petitioners needed to be rational about their demands and were not satisfied with their stand. Srinivasan said that the petitioner has sought traffic and accommodation facilities but this is not possible.

He said that ICAI has requested the Ministry of Home Affairs to allow booking of hotels through e-Admit Card.

The bench said that it was a state-related issue as before when the government agreed to a similar suggestion. The bench asked Swaraj that when the answers to the questions have to be written in detail, then how can the online examination be done. How could this happen? The bench said, "How can this happen?" Just because the court has allowed many things, you cannot make a consistent demand. Be rational about your demands. "The bench asked ICAI to release all the information about the problems raised by the petitioners on the website. With this, the court disposed of the petition.
