Google says Pixel 5 gap between display and frame is part of design

We reported earlier that there are some Google Pixel 5 owners who saw a gap between the phone's display and frame. The gap issue raised concerns of many users and also questioned the IP68 water resistance rating of Pixel 5. In response to the reports submitted by users on Google Pixel forums, the company just said that the visible gap between the display and frame of the Pixel 5 phone is part of design.

Google in a way dismissed all the complaints regarding Google Pixel 5 gap issue. The company rather called it "a normal part of the design of your Pixel 5." Google furthermore said that the noticeable vent between the screen and frame will have no effect on the water and dust resistance of the Pixel 5 smartphone.

The Community Specialist, David Pop, on the official support page of Google wrote, "We've had a chance to investigate units from customers and, combined with our quality control data from the factory, we can confirm that the variation in the clearance between the body and the display is a normal part of the design of your Pixel 5. There is no effect on the water and dust resistance or functionality of your phone. We will work with customers on an individual basis to address any concerns they may have."

After the company's response to the gap issue of Pixel 5, users have become even more infuriated and willing to change their device. Many users who submitted their concern did opt for a replacement and received a new Google Pixel 5 phone with the same gap problem. While Google doesn't see this as an issue and called it a part of design, this may certainly not relieve the Pixel 5 owners.

Affected users are either looking for a solid reason from the company for the gap between phone's screen and frame of Pixel 5, or asking Google to offer a refund guarantee if any issue arises in the future.

One of the users on the support page wrote, "I have the same problem. What happened with the quality of Google phones? I feel like Google doesn't care about pixels anymore. I'll have to go back to OnePlus." While the company relaxes saying that the gap in Pixel 5 is normal, many phone users doubt the quality of the latest Pixel smartphone. This could also benefit the competitors of Google Pixel 5 in the smartphone market.
