Hyderabad: Efforts made by G. Babji, a constable with the Hyderabad Traffic Police, to clear traffic on the busy stretch from Abid Road to Koti to enable an ambulance reach a private hospital on time is winning accolades.
A video, in which the constable is seen asking motorists to pave way for the ambulance, went viral on social media on Wednesday, winning praise for Babji not only from senior officials but also from netizens.
The incident happened on Monday evening when Babji was on duty on the Bank Street stretch when he noticed the ambulance trying to find its way through the chaotic evening traffic.
“I was standing at the junction to regulate traffic when I saw the ambulance. I rushed towards it and saw a patient inside. Those present in the ambulance looked towards me with a lot of hope,” says Babji.
He immediately swung into action and started running in front of the ambulance clearing the vehicles in front of it.
“I requested the motorists to make way for the ambulance and almost all of them responded positively. I might have run for almost a kilometre before the ambulance found a clear road,” he recalls.
The best reward, according to him, was the sight of those in the ambulance thanking him with folded hands. “I don’t know who they were, but it was my job and I am happy I did well,” Babji adds.
Appreciating his efforts, many people shared the video on social media platforms, making it go viral. Senior police officials, including City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar, appreciated the constable for his work. Officials said the Commissioner would soon be rewarding the constable for his good work.
