For England, Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has declared a second national lockdown to stop a “medical and moral disaster” for the NHS.
He explained that this year’s Christmas may be “very different” however; he hopes that taking action now would imply families can get together during that time of the year. Restaurants, pubs, gyms and non-essential shops in Britain will have to remain closed for four weeks starting from tomorrow, i.e. Thursday, he said.
However, unlike the spring restrictions, schools, colleges and universities can remain open. The restrictions would be eased after 2nd December and the regions would go back to the tiered system, he said.
To quote Mr. Johnson, “Christmas is going to be different this year, perhaps very different, but it’s my sincere hope and belief that by taking tough action now we can allow families across the country to be together.”
However, when it comes to travel, there are only few places where travelers from England can visit without restrictions – either when they arrive at their destination, or return and Canary Islands is one among them.
On the other hand, the setting up of tourism corridor had brought hopes to the numerous hotels and other businesses in this island as currently it has the lowest rate in infection in Spain. But as Ashotel, the recently declared lockdown in England and recommendations of the German government have come as a ‘body blow’ to the hopes of these sectors. Germany and the UK account for massive foreign winter tourism in Canary Island.
President Ashotel, Juan Pablo considers that this move will severely affect the recovery of the sector hoping that the England lockdown will live for short duration.
