Reminds us of emergency days: Javadekar on Arnab Goswami's arrest

New Delhi, Nov 4 (UNI) Reacting to the arrest of Republic Television editor Arnab Goswami, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday condemned the Maharashtra police for attacking the 'freedom of press' and likened it to the emergency days.

Taking to twitter, he said, 'We condemn the attack on press freedom in #Maharashtra. This is not the way to treat the Press. This reminds us of the emergency days when the press was treated like this.'

Goswami was detained by Mumbai Police on Wednesday morning, It is learnt that Arnab has been detained in connection with an old abetment to suicide case.

It is expected that Arnab will be taken to Raigad for further questioning in connection with this case.

Earlier on Wednesday, over a dozen officers of the Mumbai Police arrived at Arnab's residence to detain him.
