A BJP leader in Baghpat recited Gayatri mantra and Hanuman Chalisa in a mosque reportedly after seeking permission from the local cleric. Manupal Bansal, who is a member of the BJP’s district executive committee, live-streamed the event on his Facebook page Monday afternoon.
Police said that no FIR was registered as it was done with “mutual consent”.
On Tuesday, four persons were detained for allegedly reading Hanuman Chalisa at a Mathura eidgah. According to police, the accused — Saurabh Lambardar, Kanha, Raghav, and Krishna Thakur — did so in response to the October 29 incident in which a group of activists belonging to an NGO – Khudai Khidmatgar — had offered namaz at Mathura’s Nand Baba temple. Police had booked three of them and arrested one on the charge of “promoting enmity between religions” by offering namaz.
“God has built everything and can be worshipped anywhere,” said Ali Hasan, the mosque’s cleric.
