The Territorial Wing of the Andhra Pradesh Forest Department is ready to normalize tourism activities at Gudisa, which is the only grassland tourist destination in Andhra Pradesh, 45-kms away from Maredumilli town in East Godavari Agency.

The tiny village of Gudisa is located in the reserve forest, and is surrounded by fields of flowers (Lamiaceae family), which bloom in winter in hundreds of acres on the Gudisa hilltop. There is also a waterfall, attracting tourists from across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, in spite of a not-so-safe drive to the hill.

This winter, Gudisa hill witnessed a huge influx of tourists with tourism activities slowly returning to normal conditions after a lockdown of seven months. A majority of the tourists were found to light campfires by collecting wood from the grassland that is not allowed in the reserve forest, disturbing the unique grassland.
